December 11, 2024 – The International Security Ligue (Ligue) Cash Chapter has published its position paper on Legal Tender Euro Cash and Digital Euro, calling for a more cautious and holistic approach in the forthcoming legislations in order to ensure an effective level playing field for both, digital and physical, central bank currencies.
Tanja Kulisch-Ziemens, Secretary General of the Ligue's Cash Chapter, says: "To effectively protect the rights and welfare of citizens and to maintain economic and financial stability, a true level playing field must be created for both digital and physical central bank currencies. Cash plays a central role in the economy and in society. It is a public good that must be universally accepted and available to ensure genuine freedom of choice, privacy, social inclusiveness, and resilience. The maintenance of the critical cash infrastructure is of great importance - especially in these uncertain times".
